Xiphophorus maculatus var.
Also known as: Neon Blue Wagtail Platy, Blue Neon Wagtail Platy
Origin: Captive bred
The Neon Blue Wagtail Platy takes the classic wagtail pattern and enhances it with a particularly vivid electric blue body colouration that appears to glow under aquarium lighting. The contrast between the neon blue body and the solid black fins is striking and eye-catching.
This variety is produced by selectively breeding for the most vivid blue expression in wagtail platy lines. The neon quality of the blue is best appreciated under white LED or full-spectrum lighting.
An easy-care, prolific breeder well suited to beginner aquarists and experienced hobbyists alike; a natural show-stopper in any planted community tank.
Water: 20–26 °C, pH 7.0–8.0, GH 10–20; white LED lighting enhances the neon blue appearance. Tank: 60 L minimum; moderately planted community setup. Feeding: Quality flake, spirulina, occasional frozen Daphnia; 2 meals daily. Breeding: Prolific; 20–80 fry per brood; wagtail pattern reliably inherited. Compatibility: Peaceful community fish; pairs beautifully with green and red plants.
