Trichogaster lalius
Also known as: Neon Red Dwarf Gourami, Red Dwarf Gourami
Origin: South Asia
The Neon Red Dwarf Gourami is a captive-bred colour morph of Trichogaster lalius, developed through selective breeding to maximise intense red colouration across the entire body. Like all T. lalius varieties, it requires clean, well-maintained water and is somewhat susceptible to iridovirus. It thrives best in heavily planted aquariums with gentle filtration.
Water: temp 25–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to slightly hard. Tank: minimum 60L; densely planted with floating plants to diffuse light and aid bubble-nesting. Feeding: omnivore — micro pellets, flakes, live daphnia, bloodworm, and brine shrimp. Behaviour: generally peaceful; males may spar briefly; one male recommended per tank. Compatibility: ideal for small peaceful community tanks; avoid fin-nippers and very boisterous species.
