Neocaridina davidi var.
Also known as: Neon Yellow Shrimp, Yellow Neocaridina, Lemon Neon Shrimp
Origin: Captive bred (originally East Asia)
The Neon Yellow Shrimp is a high-intensity selective breeding line of Neocaridina davidi bred specifically for maximum yellow colour saturation. Where standard Yellow Shrimp may display translucent or semi-opaque yellow colouration, Neon Yellow lines produce specimens with fully opaque, almost fluorescent yellow colouration from head to tail including legs.
The intense yellow is most vivid under bright LED lighting against dark substrate, where Neon Yellow Shrimp appear almost to glow in the aquarium. This makes them exceptionally impactful in planted nano tanks and aquascapes with black or dark soil substrates.
Neon Yellow Shrimp share the same robust, beginner-friendly care requirements of all Neocaridina and breed prolifically in stable conditions. They can be kept alongside other Neocaridina morphs but will produce mixed-colour offspring if cross-breeding occurs.
Water: 18–26°C, pH 6.5–7.5, GH 6–15, KH 2–8; dechlorinated tap water suitable. Tank: minimum 20 L; dark substrate essential for maximum colour impact; dense plant coverage. Feeding: spirulina-based foods, algae wafers, blanched vegetables, shrimp pellets. Breeding: easy; females carry 20–30 eggs; neon colour saturation maintained in good lines. Compatibility: peaceful; suitable with nano fish and other Neocaridina; shrimp-safe tank only.
