About

The Red Spotted Nerite Snail (Neritina natalensis sp.) displays a dark olive shell decorated with vivid red-orange spots, creating a jewel-like appearance as it grazes across glass and hardscape. Highly effective at removing green spot algae, diatoms, and black beard algae in early stages, it is one of the most ornamental and functional nerite species available. Like all nerites, it will not reproduce in freshwater.

Care Guide

Provide alkaline, calcium-rich water for healthy shell maintenance. Allow sufficient algae-covered surfaces for grazing; supplement with algae wafers when algae is scarce. Secure lid to prevent escape. Avoid copper-based treatments.
