Neritina turrita
Also known as: Tiger Nerite Snail
Origin: Southeast Asia
The Tiger Nerite features rich amber colouration overlaid with irregular black stripes and dots, giving it a warm, jewel-like appearance. Like all nerites it is an outstanding algae grazer, tackling tough green spot algae that other snails ignore. It cannot reproduce in freshwater, so populations remain stable and controlled.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 7.0–8.5; calcium-hardened water keeps the polished shell intact. Tank: Minimum 20L with hard surfaces; planted tanks with glass and rocks provide maximum grazing area. Feeding: Grazes algae from all surfaces; supplement with algae wafers if natural algae is sparse. Behaviour: Highly active and visible; may attempt to leave the tank — use a lid or lower the waterline. Compatibility: Ideal with community fish and shrimp; will not harm healthy plants.
