Neritina natalensis
Origin: East Africa
The Tracked Nerite Snail features a distinctive shell pattern of fine dark lines and track-like markings that give it its common name—one of the most ornamental nerite species available. Like all nerites, it methodically cleans glass, rocks, and driftwood without harming live plants, and will not reproduce in freshwater, making population control effortless. Its attractive shell patterning and effective grazing make it a popular choice in Belgian and Dutch aquarium shops.
Maintain alkaline, calcium-adequate water. Provide algae-covered glass and hardscape for grazing. Supplement with algae wafers when natural algae is limited. Secure lid to prevent escape attempts. Avoid copper medications.
