Neritina natalensis
Also known as: Zebra Nerite Snail
Origin: East Africa
Neritina natalensis is one of the most effective algae grazers in freshwater aquariums, capable of removing green spot algae, hair algae, and diatoms from glass, rocks, and driftwood. Its striking black and gold zebra stripes make it a decorative as well as functional choice. It will not reproduce in freshwater, making population control effortless.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 7.0–8.5; moderately hard water with good calcium content supports shell health. Tank: Minimum 20L; planted or hardscape aquariums with plenty of hard surfaces to graze. Feeding: Algae is its primary diet; may accept algae wafers if tank algae is scarce. Behaviour: Active grazer, visible day and night; may deposit small white calcified eggs on hard surfaces (will not hatch in freshwater). Compatibility: Excellent community tank snail; safe with fish, shrimp, and other invertebrates.
