Neritina natalensis
Origin: East Africa
Neritina natalensis, the Zebra Nerite Snail, is a beautifully patterned algae-grazing snail with black and yellow-gold vertical stripes. One of the best algae cleaners for freshwater planted tanks — it scrapes algae, diatoms, and green spot algae from glass and leaves without damaging live plants. Unlike pest snails it cannot breed in freshwater (eggs require brackish water to hatch), making it a safe choice for planted tanks. Sold as a 3-pack.
Temperature 22–28 °C, pH 7.0–8.0. Good source of algae on surfaces plus supplement with algae wafers. Hard water preferred for shell health (GH 6+). Do not use with copper-based medications. Keep lid secure — nerites climb out.
