Pelvicachromis taeniatus 'Nigeria Red'
Also known as: Nigeria Red Krib, Nigeria Red Kribensis
Origin: West Africa (Nigeria)
Collected from rivers in southern Nigeria, the Nigeria Red is among the most sought-after Pelvicachromis taeniatus variants. Males display spectacular red-orange to crimson belly colouration alongside iridescent lateral scaling, especially when in breeding condition. Like all P. taeniatus, they require soft acidic water and caves for successful spawning.
Water: 24–27°C, pH 5.5–7.0, soft water essential for long-term health and breeding. Tank: Minimum 80L; plant densely and provide coconut cave or clay tube as spawning site. Feeding: Quality cichlid micro pellets, frozen daphnia, bloodworm, and brine shrimp. Behaviour: Males display intensely to females; pairs defend territory vigorously during spawning. Compatibility: Keep as a pair; tankmates should be surface or mid-water species that avoid the bottom.
