Nimbochromis linni
Origin: Lake Malawi (sandy and mixed substrates)
Nimbochromis linni is the largest member of the Nimbochromis genus—a fascinating group of predatory Malawi cichlids notorious for feigning death to lure unsuspecting prey fish. Adult males develop a spectacular blue-green metallic iridescence over a bold blotched pattern that mimics the appearance of a dead, decomposing fish in juveniles. An intelligent, highly charismatic species that commands attention as the focal point of a very large Lake Malawi predator display aquarium.
House in a very large aquarium (500 L+) with open sandy areas for ambush behaviour and rocky hiding places. Maintain hard, alkaline Malawi conditions. Feed a varied carnivore diet of cichlid pellets, frozen mysis, shrimp, and krill. Keep with other robust, large Malawi species; will prey on smaller fish.
