Lepidothelphusa sp.
Also known as: Ninja Crab
Origin: Southeast Asia (Borneo)
Lepidothelphusa sp. Ninja Crabs are small Bornean freshwater crabs that excel at concealment, wedging themselves into rock crevices and behind driftwood during the day and becoming more active after dark. Their muted brown-to-olive colouration provides excellent camouflage against natural substrates. They are semi-terrestrial and benefit from a paludarium setup with both shallow water and accessible land zones where they can emerge to forage.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, GH 6–15, KH 3–8; shallow water zone with land access. Tank: minimum 40 L paludarium, rocks and driftwood with crevices for hiding. Feeding: sinking pellets, detritus, blanched vegetables, small frozen foods. Behaviour: nocturnal; semi-terrestrial; secretive and elusive. Compatibility: best in species tank or with robust similar-sized fish; not shrimp-safe.
