Aulonocara ethelwynnae
Also known as: Northern Peacock, Ethel's Peacock
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa
Aulonocara ethelwynnae is a small Aulonocara collected from rocky habitats in the northern reaches of Lake Malawi. It is one of the more modestly coloured peacock species but retains the classic blue iridescence on a lighter background. Its smaller adult size makes it suitable for tanks where larger haps would be impractical.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 7.5-8.5, hard alkaline water with consistent quality. Tank: 180L minimum; fine sand substrate with scattered rocky cover. Feeding: Small cichlid pellets, cyclops, frozen artemia for best colour. Behaviour: Generally less aggressive than larger Aulonocara; still territorial when spawning. Compatibility: Suitable with other small peacocks and mild-mannered haps.
