Nothobranchius korthausae
Also known as: Korthaus' Nothobranchius
Origin: Mafia Island, Tanzania
Nothobranchius korthausae is endemic to the seasonal pools of Mafia Island, Tanzania. Males in peak condition are covered in overlapping red-orange scales with a dark-bordered caudal fin. Like all Nothobranchius, the species completes its entire lifecycle in a single wet season and requires peat substrate for successful egg storage.
Water: 20–25°C, pH 6.5–7.5, moderately hard. Tank: 30L minimum per pair, peat or coco-fibre substrate, 5cm peat for egg collection. Feeding: Carnivore — live/frozen daphnia, cyclops, baby brine shrimp. Behaviour: Males territorial; one male per container preferred. Compatibility: Species tank or with robust similarly-sized fast fish.
