Aulonocara sp. 'OB'
Also known as: OB Peacock Cichlid, OB Peacock, Orange Blotch Peacock
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa (captive-bred hybrid)
The OB Peacock Cichlid is a captive-bred hybrid resulting from crosses involving orange blotch mbuna genetics and Aulonocara peacocks. Males display extraordinary mosaic patterning of orange, red, blue, and black. It thrives in an alkaline, hard-water aquarium with other peacocks and haps of similar size.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.5-9.0, hard alkaline water with regular water changes. Tank: Minimum 200L; open sandy areas with some rocky structure for territory. Feeding: Varied diet of quality cichlid pellets, occasional frozen mysis or brine shrimp; avoid mammal-based proteins. Behaviour: Males can be aggressive toward similar-looking fish; keep one male per tank or in a harem with multiple females. Compatibility: African rift lake peacock/hap community only; avoid mbuna to reduce fin-nipping.
