Euphyllia yaeyamaensis
Origin: Indo-Pacific, Ryukyu Islands
Euphyllia yaeyamaensis, the Octospawn Coral, produces uniquely structured polyps with multiple bifurcating tips that create an octopus-arm appearance distinctly different from standard Frogspawn. It is rarer in the trade than other Euphyllia species and is prized by collectors for its unusual polyp structure. Care requirements are similar to Frogspawn, making it a manageable but rewarding acquisition for the dedicated LPS enthusiast.
Medium PAR (100–200). Moderate, indirect flow. Alk 8–10 dKH, Ca 400–450 ppm, temp 24–27°C. Allow 15 cm clearance from other corals. Target feed meaty foods 1–2× weekly. Rarer than other Euphyllia — handle carefully and ensure quarantine before introduction to display tank. Compatible with clownfish hosting.
