Melanotaenia oktediensis

Origin: Papua New Guinea (Ok Tedi River)
Melanotaenia oktediensis is native to the Ok Tedi drainage, a tributary of the Fly River in western Papua New Guinea. It displays attractive yellow-gold body colouration with iridescent blue scale edges and vivid red-orange fins in males. A well-maintained aquarium with good water quality will bring out the best colouration in this species.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderately hard water. Tank: 120 L+, planted with open swimming space and regular water changes. Feeding: Omnivore; varied diet of flakes, pellets, and frozen/live foods. Behaviour: Active, peaceful schooling fish; best displayed in mixed-sex groups. Compatibility: Good community fish with similarly sized rainbowfish and peaceful species.
