Trimma okinawae
Origin: Western Pacific, Okinawa
The Okinawa Pygmy Goby is a diminutive nano goby with a translucent orange-red body liberally dusted with iridescent orange spots, creating a sparkling, gem-like appearance that punches well above its minute size in a pico reef aquarium. Groups of these tiny fish perch on live rock and coral rubble, adding vibrant color without competing heavily for resources. As protogynous hermaphrodites, they can form their own social hierarchies in the aquarium, with dominant individuals becoming male.
Keep in groups of 3–5 in a mature pico reef with live rock and rubble. Provide copepods and micro-zooplankton as the main food source; supplement with frozen baby brine shrimp nauplii. Avoid housing with large or predatory fish. The tank must be well-sealed as these tiny fish can escape through small gaps.
