Microctenopoma ansorgii
Also known as: Orange Bushfish, Ornate Climbing Perch
Origin: Congo Basin, Africa
Microctenopoma ansorgii is one of the most striking small African labyrinth fish, with males displaying vivid orange-red body colouration with dark vertical banding. Native to the Congo Basin's forest streams, it prefers soft, slightly acidic water with ample hiding spots. Though somewhat predatory, it can be kept with robust fish too large to swallow.
Water: 24–27°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Tank: 60L minimum, densely planted with caves and driftwood hiding spots. Feeding: Carnivore — live/frozen invertebrates; can be weaned onto meaty pellets. Behaviour: Semi-aggressive; predatory toward very small fish. Compatibility: Keep with similarly sized or larger robust species.
