Cambarellus patzcuarensis
Also known as: Orange Dwarf Crayfish, CPO Crayfish
Origin: Lake Patzcuaro, Mexico
Cambarellus patzcuarensis 'Orange' (CPO) is one of the most popular dwarf crayfish in the hobby, bred for its vivid tangerine-orange colouration. Reaching only 4cm, it is safe alongside most medium-sized fish and even some robust shrimp species. It is active, entertaining, and far less destructive than larger crayfish.
Water: 18–24°C, pH 7.0–8.0; moderately hard, well-oxygenated water. Tank: Minimum 40L with caves, leaf litter, and fine substrate; a planted tank suits it well. Feeding: Sinking pellets, blanched vegetables, and meaty supplements; not destructive to plants. Behaviour: Active and curious; less territorial than large species; moults regularly. Compatibility: Can be kept with larger peaceful fish; avoid keeping with fish small enough to be threatened.
