Caridina cf. cantonensis
Also known as: Orange Eye Blue Tiger Shrimp, OEBT Shrimp, OE Blue Tiger
Origin: Captive bred (Caridina cf. cantonensis lineage)
The Orange Eye Blue Tiger Shrimp (OEBT) is a selectively bred variant of the Blue Tiger Shrimp distinguished by its striking orange-red eyes that contrast dramatically with its vivid blue body and darker tiger stripes. The orange eyes are the result of a selective breeding program and add an extraordinary additional element of visual interest to an already beautiful shrimp.
The OEBT is intermediate in difficulty, requiring moderately soft and mildly acidic water — softer than Neocaridina prefer but less extreme than Crystal Bee Shrimp requirements. A partial RO blend is recommended in most tap water situations to achieve appropriate parameters.
Orange Eye Blue Tiger Shrimp breed readily in appropriate conditions and can be crossed with other Blue Tiger lines. The orange eye trait is partially heritable, making selective breeding for consistent orange-eye expression an interesting challenge for hobbyists.
Water: 18–24°C, pH 6.0–7.0, GH 4–8, KH 1–4; partial RO blend recommended for most tap water. Tank: minimum 20 L; fine substrate; moss and plants for cover and natural grazing. Feeding: biofilm, algae wafers, snowflake food, quality shrimp pellets. Breeding: moderate; females carry 20–30 eggs; orange eye expression partially heritable in offspring. Compatibility: Tiger shrimp variants only; do not mix with Neocaridina; avoid fish.
