Fromia indica
Origin: Indo-Pacific, Red Sea
Fromia indica, the Orange Marble Starfish, displays a striking orange and red marbled pattern across its textured five-armed body, making it one of the most ornamental sea stars available in the marine hobby. It grazes on biofilm, detritus, and small organic matter on live rock surfaces and is considered safer for reef aquariums than many sea stars. Like all Fromia species, it requires slow acclimation and a mature reef system with established microfauna.
Acclimate very slowly using the drip method over 2–3 hours, never expose to air. Requires a mature reef with abundant live rock and established microbial communities. Avoid sudden salinity or temperature fluctuations. Incompatible with pufferfish, triggers, and other invertebrate predators.
