Haplochromis sp. 'Orange Rock Hunter'
Also known as: Orange Rock Hunter, Orange Rock Hunter Victorian
Origin: Lake Victoria, Africa
The Orange Rock Hunter is a trade name for a Lake Victoria haplochromine that forages actively among rocky substrate for invertebrates, small fish, and organic matter. Males display a vivid orange body with blue facial markings and are highly territorial. As with all Victorian cichlids, captive breeding is strongly encouraged given their endangered status.
Water: 23-26°C, pH 7.5-8.5, moderately hard alkaline water; maintain nitrates below 20ppm. Tank: Minimum 150L; substantial rocky structure with numerous caves. Feeding: Carnivore-leaning omnivore — quality pellets, frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and occasional live foods. Behaviour: More aggressive and predatory than many Victorian cichlids; predatory toward very small tankmates. Compatibility: Victorian community with medium to larger species; avoid very small fish.
