Caridina cantonensis var. (hybrid)
Also known as: Orchid Bee Shrimp, Purple Bee Shrimp
Origin: Captive bred (Caridina hybrid lineage)
The Orchid Bee Shrimp is an exceptionally rare Caridina cantonensis hybrid displaying a unique orchid-purple to violet and white bee-style pattern. The purple pigmentation is one of the rarest colours achieved through selective Caridina breeding and makes the Orchid Bee one of the most visually striking and sought-after invertebrates available.
Like other bee shrimp hybrids, the Orchid Bee requires pristine, soft, acidic water conditions with near-zero carbonate hardness. RO water, active buffering substrate, and absolute parameter stability are non-negotiable. This is a species strictly for experienced, proven Caridina keepers.
Due to its extraordinary rarity and visual appeal, the Orchid Bee commands premium prices. Specimens in captivity are carefully maintained by specialist breeders, and availability is extremely limited.
Water: 18–24°C, pH 5.8–6.6, GH 3–6, KH 0–2; RO water with Caridina mineral salts; TDS 100–150. Tank: minimum 20 L; active buffering substrate; sponge filter; dense moss and fine plants. Feeding: snowflake food, biofilm powders, algae wafers; minimal amounts to maintain water quality. Breeding: difficult; small clutches of 10–18 eggs; purple colouration requires selective breeding. Compatibility: Caridina bee shrimp only; absolutely no fish; no Neocaridina.
