Pseudochromis fridmani
Origin: Red Sea
Pseudochromis fridmani, the Orchid Dottyback, is one of the most beloved small reef fish available—displaying an unbroken, vivid violet-purple coloration from snout to tail that is both unique and instantly recognizable. Originally from the Red Sea, captive-bred specimens are widely available and are more docile and adaptable than wild-caught individuals. Reef-safe and relatively hardy, it can be territorial toward other dottybacks but coexists peacefully with most unrelated species.
Provide live rock caves and crevices for hiding and territory establishment. Feed frozen mysis, enriched brine shrimp, and small meaty foods. Introduce only one per tank unless the aquarium is very large. Captive-bred specimens acclimate more readily and show less aggression than wild-caught.
