Corydoras ornatus
Origin: Brazil (Rio Tapajos)
Corydoras ornatus is an attractive cory from the Rio Tapajos system in Brazil, patterned with dense, irregular dark spots on the flanks that create a beautiful mosaic effect against a silvery base color. A moderately active cory that prefers the soft, warm blackwater conditions of its native Amazonian habitat, it does best when kept in groups of 6 or more over fine sand substrate with leaf litter. A good choice for intermediate aquarists seeking an uncommon cory beyond the most frequently kept species.
Keep in groups of 6+ on fine sand substrate. Provide leaf litter and driftwood to replicate Amazonian conditions. Feed sinking pellets, frozen bloodworm, daphnia, and Tubifex. Maintain excellent water quality with frequent partial changes. Sensitive to elevated nitrates.
