Ctenopoma weeksii
Also known as: Ornate Ctenopoma, Ornate Climbing Perch
Origin: Central Africa
Ctenopoma weeksii is one of the most ornately marked African bushfish, with a complex pattern of dark spots, ocelli, and bands on a brown-gold body. It is native to the Congo River system and is a nocturnal ambush predator that will consume smaller fish and invertebrates. It can be kept with larger peaceful fish but must be housed with appropriate-sized companions.
Water: temp 23–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Tank: minimum 120L; heavily planted with driftwood and caves for cover and ambush points. Feeding: carnivore — live and frozen invertebrates, earthworms; may accept carnivore pellets. Behaviour: nocturnal and predatory; generally ignores fish too large to eat. Compatibility: keep with fish too large to be eaten; avoid small tetras or invertebrates.
