Halichoeres ornatissimus
Origin: Central Pacific, Hawaii
The Ornate Wrasse is one of the most visually complex wrasses available in the hobby, featuring an intricate and detailed pattern of red, green, and white lines that cover the entire body surface. Native to Hawaiian and Central Pacific reefs, it is moderately challenging due to its dietary requirements for diverse, protein-rich foods. A diverse carnivorous diet including frozen mysis, copepods, and enriched brine shrimp is critical for maintaining color intensity and long-term health.
Provide a mature reef or fish-only aquarium with live rock and open swimming space. Feed a varied protein-rich diet twice daily: frozen mysis, copepods, enriched brine shrimp, and small meaty foods. Ensure tight-fitting lid to prevent jumping. May consume small ornamental shrimp.
