Astronotus ocellatus
Origin: South America
The Albino Oscar is a dramatic color form of Astronotus ocellatus featuring a striking white to pale cream body with orange-red markings and characteristic red eyes of the albino morph. Just as bold, intelligent, and personable as wild-type Oscars, albino specimens add an otherworldly focal point to large display aquariums. Known for recognizing their keeper and begging for food, they are among the most interactive freshwater fish available.
House in a large aquarium (400 L+) with powerful filtration—Oscars produce significant waste. Feed quality large cichlid pellets, frozen shrimp, earthworms, and meaty foods. Perform 30%+ water changes weekly. Avoid housing with fish small enough to swallow. Provide strong filtration and regular substrate vacuuming.
