The Tiger Oscar displays the most recognized Astronotus ocellatus coloration—irregular orange-red blotches and vermiculation on a dark olive-black base, creating the striking tiger-like pattern that made this species world-famous. A highly interactive cichlid that tames quickly with regular feeding, it learns to recognize its keeper and responds enthusiastically at feeding time. One of the most charismatic large freshwater fish available in the hobby.

House in a 400 L+ aquarium with heavy filtration and regular large water changes. Feed quality large cichlid pellets, frozen prawns, earthworms, and meaty foods. Remove uneaten food promptly. Avoid housing with small fish. Robust, heavy decor works best as Oscars are vigorous rearrangers.
