Pseudomugil signifer
Also known as: Pacific Blue-eye, Pacific Blue Eye
Origin: Australia (eastern coast)
Pseudomugil signifer is widespread along the eastern Australian coast from Queensland to New South Wales, inhabiting a diverse range of freshwater and estuarine environments. Its broad tolerance for water conditions, including brackish water, makes it exceptionally hardy. Males develop yellow fin coloration and vivid blue eyes at maturity.
Water: 18–26°C, pH 6.5–8.0, soft to hard; tolerates mild salinity. Tank: 40 L+, planted with open swimming areas; gentle filtration. Feeding: Omnivore; small flakes, micro-pellets, and frozen/live micro-foods. Behaviour: Active, peaceful, schooling; tolerant of a wider range of conditions than most blue-eyes. Compatibility: Excellent with other small peaceful fish; suitable for brackish nano setups.
