Akysis pictus
Also known as: Painted Catlet Loach, Spotted Catlet, Pictus Catlet
Origin: Myanmar, Thailand
Akysis pictus is a tiny and beautifully marked micro-catfish belonging to the Akysidae family, closely associated with the rocky hill-stream habitats of Myanmar and Thailand. Its contrasting brown-and-cream spotted pattern across a compact body gives it a striking appearance belying its small size. It rests motionless on rocky substrate for extended periods, becoming active mainly at dusk to hunt small invertebrates.
Water: 22-26°C, pH 6.5-7.5, well-oxygenated, moderate flow. Tank: Minimum 40 L, smooth pebbles and slate, leaf litter for security. Feeding: Frozen bloodworm, micro-worms, daphnia, small live invertebrates. Behaviour: Cryptic and reclusive; most active at twilight and night. Compatibility: Peaceful; avoid keeping with very small fry or nano shrimp.
