Neocaridina davidi var. 'Painted Fire Red'
Also known as: Painted Fire Red Shrimp, PFR Shrimp
Origin: Selectively bred; base species from Taiwan and China
The Painted Fire Red Shrimp is a premium Neocaridina davidi morph selectively bred for total-body opaque red coloration, eliminating any translucency visible in lower-grade Red Cherry variants. The result is a shrimp with a vivid, almost painted appearance — deep, uniform red from rostrum to tail. Despite its impressive appearance, the Painted Fire Red retains the full hardiness of standard Neocaridina and adapts well to a broad range of tap water parameters. It is one of the most striking yet accessible high-grade Neocaridina available, making it a popular choice for both experienced and intermediate shrimp keepers who want maximum visual impact without demanding Caridina-level care.
Water: pH 6.5–8.0, TDS 150–400 ppm, temperature 18–28°C; standard tap water acceptable. Tank: 20+ litres; dark substrate enhances red color; planted with moss and broad-leaf plants. Feeding: Biofilm, algae, color-enhancing shrimp pellets, blanched greens. Breeding: Prolific; select deepest-colored specimens to maintain Painted Fire Red grade. Compatibility: Peaceful; community-compatible; avoid mixing with lower-grade red Neocaridina.
