Sphaeramia nematoptera
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Sphaeramia nematoptera — the pajama or spotted cardinalfish — has an unmistakable appearance: a bright yellow front half with a brown vertical band, then a white/silver rear half covered in vivid red spots. The look is almost comical. It is a hardy, peaceful, schooling species suitable for beginner reef tanks. It is nocturnal, becoming more active in the evening. Males are mouthbrooders. Keeps well in groups of 3–6.
Light: any (more active in dim light). Flow: moderate. Feed: mysis, prepared frozen. Keep in groups of 3+. Reef-safe and peaceful. Hardy for beginners.
