Botia lohachata
Origin: Pakistan, India, Bangladesh
Botia lohachata, the Pakistani or Yo-Yo Loach, has an attractive reticulated pattern of dark marks on a pale golden body that resembles the letters 'Y' and 'O' — hence the nickname. From fast-flowing rivers in Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh, it is hardy and adaptable. An enthusiastic snail predator and substrate forager. Active and playful in groups; will chase its own kind in harmless sparring. One of the most forgiving loach species for newcomers to the group.
Groups of 4+ recommended. Sand or fine gravel substrate, caves and plant cover. Feed sinking pellets, live or frozen worm, snails. Temperature 22–27 °C. Tolerates medium-hard water well. A lidded tank essential — occasional jumper.
