Stiphodon pelewensis
Origin: Palau (Pacific Islands)
Stiphodon pelewensis is a rare and breathtakingly beautiful freshwater goby from the fast-flowing mountain streams of Palau, with males displaying an intense yellow-orange body contrasted by electric-blue facial stripes and iridescent fin markings. Like all Stiphodon species, it grazes on algae and biofilm on rocks in highly oxygenated, high-current streams. Infrequently available in the trade, it represents a genuine trophy species for the dedicated stream goby enthusiast.
Provide a mature aquarium with powerful directional flow over smooth rock surfaces and extensive biofilm growth. Maintain high dissolved oxygen levels with surface agitation. Feed algae wafers, spirulina tabs, and blanched vegetables in addition to natural biofilm. Males are territorial with each other.
