Bryconella pallidifrons
Also known as: Pallidifrons Tetra
Origin: South America (Orinoco system, Venezuela, Colombia)
Bryconella pallidifrons is a slender, pale-bodied characin from the Orinoco system of Venezuela and Colombia. It is a less commonly seen species in the hobby, notable for its translucent silver-white body, delicate finnage, and dynamic open-water schooling behaviour. The species is active and benefits from a spacious aquarium.
It adapts well to a range of soft to medium-hard water conditions and is undemanding in terms of pH, making it one of the more accessible Orinoco stream species. A well-planted tank with open swimming space and moderate flow suits it perfectly.
Feeding is easy: it accepts standard flake, micro-pellets, and frozen foods without any difficulty. This is a good choice for aquarists looking to keep an attractive Orinoco species that is both manageable and visually rewarding in larger schools.
Water: 23–27°C, pH 5.5–7.0, soft to medium (GH 3–15, KH 1–7). Tank: 100 L minimum; open mid-water swimming space with planted background. Feeding: Quality flake, micro-pellets, frozen brine shrimp, bloodworm, and daphnia. Breeding: Egg-scatterer; condition with live foods; provide dense fine plants as spawning site. Compatibility: Peaceful with similarly sized community fish; good with medium tetras and corydoras.
