Carassius auratus
Also known as: Panda Ranchu, Panda Fancy Goldfish, Ranchu Goldfish
Origin: Japan
The Panda Ranchu combines the coveted round, dorsal-fin-free ranchu body with a striking panda-like black-and-white pattern. These fish are highly sought after by collectors because achieving and maintaining the crisp panda coloration is genetically challenging. Individual specimens with balanced black and white patches are especially valuable.
Water: 10–22°C, pH 6.5–7.5, zero ammonia, stable temperatures to prevent color fading. Tank: minimum 150 L, shallow preferred, low flow to avoid stressing swimmers. Feeding: sinking pellets, vegetables, daphnia — avoid overfeeding to prevent buoyancy issues. Behaviour: gentle and unhurried; distinctive swimming style due to round body shape. Compatibility: ranchu, lionhead, or other similarly shaped fancy goldfish.
