Hyphessobrycon amandae (Panda variant) or the related Panda Tetra from Peru's Huallaga River basin displays distinctive high-contrast black and white body markings that give it a panda-like appearance. It is a rarely seen species in the hobby, appealing to collectors and specialist aquarists. It requires stable, soft, warm water conditions and benefits from a mature, heavily planted aquarium.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 5.5–7.0, soft and slightly acidic; stable conditions essential. Tank: 60 L minimum; well-planted aquarium with gentle filtration and minimal flow. Feeding: Micro-pellets, baby brine shrimp, micro-worms and small frozen invertebrates. Behaviour: Shy schooling species; keep 8+; settles down with time in a stable aquarium. Compatibility: Best with other small peaceful nano fish; avoid boisterous or large species.
