Apistogramma panduro
Origin: Peru (Ucayali drainage)
Apistogramma panduro is a coveted dwarf cichlid from the Ucayali region of Peru, distinguished by the male's striking jet-black pectoral spot and vivid blue-violet iridescent flanks that flash brilliantly during courtship. It inhabits very soft, peat-filtered blackwater streams with abundant leaf litter and caves. Females transform into a striking bright yellow when guarding eggs and are fiercely protective parents—providing a remarkable behavioral display.
Maintain very soft, acidic water with tannins from Indian almond leaves or peat filtration. Provide abundant caves, coconut shells, and leaf litter. Feed live and frozen invertebrates: bloodworm, daphnia, artemia. Breed as a pair or harem (1 male, 2–3 females). Females turn yellow and become highly aggressive when brooding.
