Paracyprichromis nigripinnis
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
Paracyprichromis nigripinnis is a mid-water pelagic cichlid from the deep rocky zones of Lake Tanganyika. Males display breathtaking vivid neon-blue horizontal stripes on a dark body, intensifying during courtship. A schooling open-water species quite unlike most cichlids in behaviour. Mouthbrooder; the male holds the eggs.
Keep in large schools (10+) in at least 200 L. Provide open swimming space with rocks at the back. Hard, alkaline water essential. Feed small pellets, frozen cyclops, and artemia. Peaceful with other Tanganyikans. Unusual for cichlids in that it is genuinely a schooling species. Reverse-sex mouthbrooder.
