Melanochromis parallelus

Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa
Melanochromis parallelus is a mbuna characterised by two parallel horizontal stripes running along the flank, which is present in both sexes. Males develop a deeper blue-black colouration while females retain a more contrasting stripe pattern. It is moderately aggressive and behaves like a typical Melanochromis mbuna in terms of temperament and care requirements.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 7.5-8.5, hard alkaline water. Tank: 180L minimum with rocky aquascape. Feeding: Herbivore-leaning diet; algae products and spirulina as staple. Behaviour: Moderately aggressive; typical Melanochromis temperament. Compatibility: Standard mbuna community; suitable with other Melanochromis species.
