Origin: Papua New Guinea (southeastern)
Melanotaenia parkinsoni is endemic to the rivers and streams of southeastern Papua New Guinea. Mature males develop a brilliant orange-gold body with striking red and blue scale iridescence that rivals any tropical fish. A hardy, beginner-friendly species that rewards good feeding and water quality with exceptional colouration.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderately hard water (GH 8–18). Tank: 150 L+, open swimming space with robust plants and strong filtration. Feeding: Omnivore; quality flakes, pellets, and regular frozen bloodworm or brine shrimp. Behaviour: Active, peaceful, highly displayful schooling fish; males compete constantly. Compatibility: Excellent with other rainbowfish and large peaceful community species.
