About

Apistogramma payaminonis originates from the Payamino River drainage, spanning the Peru-Ecuador border zone in the upper Amazon basin. Males develop a well-defined lyre-shaped tail and show a striking lateral band that contrasts with their yellow-orange body. It is a moderately challenging species that rewards keepers who provide appropriate soft water conditions.

Care Guide

Water: 24-29°C, pH 5.5-7.0, soft (GH 2-8). Tank: 80L minimum, sand substrate, caves, driftwood, and moderate planting. Feeding: omnivore — live/frozen bloodworm, Artemia; cichlid micro-pellets. Behaviour: territorial during breeding; harem setup (1M:2-3F) recommended. Compatibility: peaceful community with small tetras, pencilfish, and Corydoras.
