Tateurndina ocellicauda (albino morph)
Also known as: Peacock Goby Albino, Albino Peacock Gudgeon, Albino Eye-spot Sleeper
Origin: Papua New Guinea (captive-bred morph)
The Peacock Goby Albino is a selectively bred colour morph of Tateurndina ocellicauda in which the normal black and dark-blue pigmentation is replaced by a pale cream to white base with pink-tinged fins and red eyes characteristic of true albinism. Despite the absence of melanin, males retain the iridescent blue-white sheen of their wild-type counterparts under good lighting, and the peacock-eye ocellus on the caudal peduncle remains visible as a pale gold ring. The albino morph shares all the care requirements of the standard form: warm, soft to moderately hard water, a well-planted tank with small caves, and a diet of small frozen and live invertebrates. Cave-spawning behaviour and male brood guarding are unchanged, and fry are straightforward to raise on micro-foods. This morph appeals to aquarists seeking a visually distinctive nano fish that still embodies the charm of the wild Peacock Goby.
Water: 24–28 °C, pH 6.5–7.5, GH 4–15, KH 2–10; soft to moderately hard, neutral to slightly acidic; gentle filtration. Tank: 40 L minimum; dense planting, driftwood, and small cave spawning sites such as coconut halves or PVC sections. Feeding: Carnivore; frozen bloodworm, daphnia, baby brine shrimp, and small quality pellets; feed daily in small amounts. Breeding: Cave spawner; male guards eggs enthusiastically; fry raised on baby brine shrimp and micro-worms. Compatibility: Peaceful; suitable with small tetras, rasboras, and dwarf cichlids; avoid aggressive or boisterous tankmates.
