Labidochromis sp. 'Perlmutt'
Also known as: Pearl Mbuna, Perlmutt Labidochromis
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa
The Pearl Mbuna is a Labidochromis variant displaying a golden-yellow body with a subtle iridescent blue and pearlescent sheen, particularly visible under aquarium lighting. Like other Labidochromis, it is one of the more peaceful mbuna species, making it suitable for community mbuna setups or even more mixed Malawi displays.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water; stable conditions for best colouration. Tank: Minimum 150L; rocky setup with caves; less critical for heavy rockwork than more aggressive mbuna. Feeding: Omnivore diet of quality cichlid pellets, spirulina, and occasional frozen mysis or brine shrimp. Behaviour: One of the milder mbuna; males establish soft territories but rarely cause serious injury. Compatibility: Compatible with mbuna and even some peacocks/haps; good community species.
