Rasbora vaterifloris
Also known as: Pearly Rasbora, Fire Rasbora, Cottelat's Rasbora
Origin: Sri Lanka
Rasbora vaterifloris is the most colourful Sri Lankan rasbora, with a body that shifts between pearl-white, pink, and soft orange depending on lighting and the fish's condition. Found in the rainforest streams of Sri Lanka's wet zone, it inhabits soft, slightly acidic water rich in leaf litter. It is a peaceful, somewhat shy species that benefits from a quiet, well-planted environment and is best displayed with subtly coloured companions that do not overshadow its delicate beauty.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately soft (GH 2–10). Tank: 60 L minimum; planted with leaf litter, gentle filtration, subdued lighting. Feeding: Omnivore — micro pellets, fine flake, live or frozen baby brine shrimp, Daphnia. Behaviour: Peaceful, somewhat shy schooler; keep 10+ for confidence and best colouration. Compatibility: Ideal with other small Sri Lankan endemics, nano shrimp, and pygmy corydoras.
