Corydoras paleatus
Origin: Southern Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina
Corydoras paleatus, the Peppered Cory, is one of the oldest cory species in the hobby — it was reportedly kept in European aquariums in the 1870s. Its speckled grey-green body peppered with dark blotches makes it unmistakable. Unlike most tropical cories it prefers cooler water (18–24 °C), making it perfect for unheated tanks alongside goldfish or temperate tetras. Incredibly hardy and easy to breed; stimulated by cool water changes mimicking seasonal rains.
Groups of 6+. Unheated or temperate tank 18–24 °C ideal. Fine sand or smooth gravel. Feed sinking pellets, frozen bloodworm, tablet foods. Very tolerant of water chemistry. One of the easiest cories to breed — egg-scatter on glass.
