Lysmata wurdemanni
Origin: Caribbean / Western Atlantic
The Peppermint Shrimp is a highly valued marine invertebrate celebrated for its remarkable appetite for the nuisance Aiptasia anemones that can rapidly colonize and damage reef aquariums. Its translucent body decorated with red and white stripes makes it visually attractive. A nocturnal scavenger, it hides during the day and becomes active after dark. Generally reef-safe with corals and most invertebrates, it is an effective biological control for aiptasia infestations.
Introduce 1–2 per 50 L for effective aiptasia control. May require supplemental target-feeding if the aiptasia population is eradicated. Feed frozen mysis and meaty foods at night. Generally safe with LPS corals. Multiple specimens will spontaneously pair and breed in the aquarium.
