Pethia padamya, the Odessa Barb, is a spectacular barb with a vivid red horizontal blaze and contrasting black patches. Males are particularly colourful. Easy to keep, peaceful in groups, and a great alternative to the common Tiger Barb for community tanks.

School of 6+. Temperature 22–26°C, pH 6.5–7.5. Feed flakes, small pellets, frozen Artemia. Planted tank with open swimming space. Very hardy and easy to keep.
