Trigonostigma phuketensis
Also known as: Phuket Rasbora
Origin: Phuket, Thailand
Trigonostigma phuketensis is one of the rarest fish in the aquarium trade, restricted to the last surviving peat swamp habitats on Phuket, Thailand — most of which have been destroyed by development. It closely resembles T. heteromorpha but is smaller and found in far more extreme blackwater conditions. Conservation-minded hobbyists are encouraged to breed and propagate this species to reduce pressure on wild populations.
Water: 23–28 °C, pH 5.5–7.0, very soft acidic water essential (GH 1–6). Tank: 40 L minimum; blackwater botanicals, leaf litter, dense planting, dim lighting. Feeding: Omnivore — micro pellets, live or frozen Daphnia, baby brine shrimp. Behaviour: Peaceful schooler; keep 8+ in a quiet, species-appropriate setup. Compatibility: Suitable with other small Trigonostigma, Boraras, and nano shrimp.
